Koto - ADOPTED
Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue recently took in a new rescue, Koto. New volunteers drove over 1,000 miles round trip to get him out of his current situation where he was with at least his 3rd family that weren't taking very good care of him. Koto is a large mini that is 5 years old.
At some point in his life, Koto suffered an injury to his right hind hip, but nothing was done to correct it. As Koto is getting more comfortable in his foster home, they are noticing more and more the trouble he is having and isn't using his leg to run or play. Koto's foster took him for a 2nd opinion with a specialist and the x-rays showed just how bad it is. Koto is being scheduled for surgery and then will have therapy. The surgery will cost approximately $1,800, but will be well worth it to give Koto a better quality of life. Koto will also need follow up care and therapy.
Koto's foster said that she's been around many AKK and has never met one with such a gentle soul ~ especially considering the life he has lived so far and the amount of pain he is constantly in. She said his personality is even more beautiful than his looks.
**Update**
Koto's surgery has been postponed. As he was being shaved for surgery, it was discovered that he has a staph infection. This must be cleared up before he's cleared for surgery. Additionally, they were able to see just how underweight he is. Koto is also suffering from diarrhea they are working to diagnose and treat. At some point, his eyes had been matted shut for so long that they hair folicles started growing into his eyes. It was also determined that his horrible hip injury was likely due to a kick from a boot! This poor boy has suffered so much! Yet despite all the abuse and neglect, his foster home reports that he is such a wonderful dog. He is not fond of loud noises or quick movements, which is understandable. Given enough love, proper treatment, and time, he may overcome these fears.
We are SO grateful to volunteer Cathy Lingle for picking up and fostering this boy, and seeing to his medical and emotional needs. Koto is the reason we do what we do, and we are blessed to have the opportunity to give him a better life, and the loving, caring family that he deserves!!
